The Department of Water Resources (DWR) and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) have formed a work team to address water resources related issues of climate change. The mission of the work team is to coordinate with other state and federal agencies to incorporate climate change science into California’s water resources planning and management by providing and regularly updating information to the decision making process on potential risks and impacts of climate change, flexibility of existing facilities to accommodate climate change, and possible mitigation measures.

DWR Climate Change Report, July 2006

DWR has released “Progress on Incorporating Climate Change into Management of California’s Water Resources.” This report responds to the Governor’s Executive Order S-3-05 requiring biennial reports on climate change impacts to various areas including water resources. It provides information on potential impacts of selected climate change scenarios to operations of the State Water Project and Central Valley Project, Delta water quality, flood management and evapotranspiration. The technical chapters of this report underwent an external peer review. You may request the report as a hard copy by contacting the Department of Water Resources Publications and Paperwork Management Unit at (916) 653-1097 or imr-publications@water.ca.gov. Reports are $20 each for the first 3 copies and $50 for each additional copy. (07/10/06)
