CalSim 3 Model
CalSim 3 Model
CalSim 3 is a new and improved water resources planning model, jointly developed by the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) and the Mid-Pacific Region of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation), to simulate operations of the State Water Project (SWP) and the Central Valley Project (CVP) and much of the water resources infrastructure in the Central Valley of California and the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta region. It is the next generation of CalSim-II model which has been used in various Central Valley water resources planning studies since its release in 2002.
Major improvements and enhancements in CalSim 3.0 include:
Finer model spatial resolution
Better water supply and demand estimation
Improved groundwater representation and simulation
Enhanced model validation
Extended model spatial and temporal domain
Advanced model engine (WRIMS 2.0)
Thorough model documentation
Model supporting tools
CalSim 3 Workshop Date: January 25 - 26, 2018 Time: 9am - 4pm Location: Bonderson Building (901 P Street, Sacramento) Hearing Room
This free two-day workshop is a follow up to the CalSim 3.0 model beta release. The morning session on the first day is designed for both water contractors/managers and modelers. More model technical details will be presented during the remaining workshop sessions which are aimed mainly at modelers. No computer is necessary for attending the workshop. The workshop agenda will be emailed to you at a later date before the workshop. Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org if you plan to attend the workshop. A link to remotely access the workshop will be emailed to you if you are not able to attend the workshop physically.
We cordially invite you as to be a volunteer model beta tester. It is strongly desirable for beta testers to already have a basic understanding of the water system of the Central Valley and the operations of the State Water Project (SWP) and the Central Valley Project (CVP) as well as prior experience and knowledge of the CalSim-II Model in order to conduct an effective beta testing. We would like to get your feedback on your impressions of the CalSim 3.0 model beta and if the model testing, following the workshop.
A separate CalSim operations training workshop is being planned and will be announced shortly.
