 Fishery Improvements

The Fishery Improvement Section is comprised of engineers and biologists that work on fish facility and fish passage issues in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.  The Fishery Improvement Section's goal is to support the California Bay Delta Authority's effort to develop and improve existing and proposed fish passage and fish facilities by addressing both engineering and fish biology concerns. To achieve its goals, the Fishery Improvement Section is developing and testing pilot projects that address fish issues and criteria for facilities that are effective. This is accomplished by performing field and laboratory studies, as well as staying apprised of new information and advances in technology.

The work performed in the Section is coordinated with other agencies and organizations including Department of Fish and Game (DFG), the United States Bureau of Reclamation (USBR), the University of California at Davis (UCD), and other federal, state, and local agencies. The Section is also active on the Central Valley Fish Facilities Review Team (CVFFRT) and the Tracy Technical Advisory Team (TTAT). Both teams meet on a regular basis with participation from various agencies including DFG, United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), UCD, Central Valley Project Contractors, USBR, and NOAA Fisheries. The teams provide meaningful interagency review and coordination of various central valley fish facility projects.
