The following report on the Temporary Barriers Project is for your information and action, as appropriate.  This report will be transmitted whenever changes occur to the operation of the barriers, and as a result of modeling and/or field monitoring of water levels in the south Delta.

STATUS AS OF:   June 6, 2014

Agricultural Barriers (Middle River [MR], Old River near Tracy [ORT], Grant Line Canal [GLC]):

Temporary agricultural barrier installation of the Middle River started on March 11, 2014 and was finished on March 17, 2014.  The flap gates are operating tidally as of April 8, 2014.  The installation of the Old River near Tracy barrier started on March 11, 2014.  Channel closure was achieved on Thursday April 3, 2014 and the barrier was completed on Tuesday April 8, 2014.  The flap gates are tidally operating as of April 8, 2014.  The boat tender is on duty.  The partial closure of the Grant Line Canal was achieved on Friday March 28, 2014.  Full closure was achieved on June 3, 2014 and the culvert flap-gates are tied open.  Boat tender on duty.

Head of Old River Barrier [HORB]:

The construction on the spring Head of Old River barrier began on Tuesday March 25, 2014.  Closure was achieved on April 08, 2014.  The barrier construction was completed on Friday April 11, 2014.  All slide gates are open.  Construction removal of the barrier started on May 28, 2014 and breach of the weir is anticipated to occur on Monday June 9, 2014.

Environmental Permits Compliance Reporting:

Staff continues with the Environmental Compliance Monitoring as scheduled.  No incidental cases of listed species were observed.

Water Levels and Water Quality Notifications:

All three agricultural barriers (Middle River, Grantline Canal, and Old River near Tracy) are fully closed and the Head of Old River Barrier is in the process of being removed.  DWR will continue to monitor water levels.

Modeling:

Modeling Assumptions:
-Middle River barrier closed March 17th, 2014, all 6 culvert flap-gates tidally operated.
-Grantline Canal barrier was fully closed on June 3, 2014 with all 6 culvert flap-gates tied open.
-Old River near Tracy barrier was closed on April 3rd, all 9 culvert flap-gates tidally operated.
-Spring Head of Old River barrier is estimated to be breached on June 9, 2014.

Modeling results are attached and actual minimum water levels are above target levels at all three Ag barriers (Middle River, Grantline Canal, and Old River near Tracy) and should remain that way through the end of the forecast period.
