The following report on the Temporary Barriers Project is for your information and action, as appropriate.  This report will be transmitted whenever changes occur to the operation of the barriers, and as a result of modeling and/or field monitoring of water levels in the south Delta.

STATUS AS OF:  Friday, July 14, 2006

Head of Old River Barrier (HORB):

The HORB was not installed this spring due to high flows.  The HORB will be installed in the fall if needed for dissolved oxygen improvements in the SJR and if requested by DFG. 

Agricultural Barriers (Old River near DMC, Middle River, Grant Line Canal):

The installation of the Middle River barrier began on July 5 and was completed on July 7.  The construction of the Old River near DMC and Grant Line Canal barriers started on July 7.  Closure of the DMC weir section should be done on Monday (July 17) with the boat ramp not available for a couple days afterwards.  The GLC barrier closure is expected on Wednesday (July 19).

Modeling:

Modeling was completed late last week and today and the results attached.  Water levels are expected to remain slightly below 0.0 feet MSL at the Old River monitoring site near Tracy Road Bridge until the barrier weir is closed about 7/17.  The same forecast is expected at the GLC site on Doughty Cut until closure on 7/19.  On Middle River, levels are above 0.0 feet MSL and will rise more when all three barriers are closed.
