The following report on the Temporary Barriers Project is for your information and action, as appropriate.  This report will be transmitted whenever changes occur to the operation of the barriers, and as a result of modeling and/or field monitoring of water levels in the south Delta.

STATUS AS OF:  November 9 , 2007

Head of Old River Barrier (HORB):

The HOR barrier has been planned for removal beginning November 15, but due to scheduling and availability of key heavy equipment, the DWR construction management staff moved the date up to today, November 9.  Breaching of the HOR barrier began today and will be fully breached later today or tomorrow.  Water levels have dropped considerably this week after the ag barriers were breached and as the spring tides continue so this necessary scheduling change came at a good time (see attached plot of water levels this week just upstream of the ORT barrier).  The additional flow down Old River past the breached HOR barrier will help slow and reverse the downward trend.

Agricultural Barriers (Old River near Tracy [ORT], Middle River [MR], Grant Line Canal [GLC]):

The removal of the ORT and GLC barriers began on November 5 and November 6 respectively, with breaches occurring the following days.  The GLC barrier center weir is approximately 75% removed.  The ORT weir and culverts have been removed, with crews working on removing the culvert gravel pad.  The MR barrier will be breached on November 27.  All in-water work will be completed before November 30, 2007.

Modeling was not done this week as the barriers are in various states of being removed. Click here to see Old River water level.
