The following report on the Temporary Barriers Project is for your information and action, as appropriate.  This report will be transmitted whenever changes occur to the operation of the barriers, and as a result of modeling and/or field monitoring of water levels in the south Delta.

STATUS AS OF:  November 30 , 2007

Head of Old River Barrier (HORB):

The HOR barrier was breached November 9.  Removing the north abutment (last of the in-water work) was completed yesterday, November 29.  The contractor continued with dressing up the site today.

The removal of the ORT and GLC barriers began on November 5 and November 6 respectively, with breaches occurring the following days.  The GLC barrier has been completely removed as of November 29.  Work continues to dress up the levee road and replace buoys.  The ORT barrier has been completely removed as of November 18.  Work continues there to dress up the levee road and rock storage site.  The MR barrier was completely removed and site clean up done as of November 29.  All in-water work for all the barriers was completed by November 30, 2007 per the terms of our operating permits.

Modeling was not done this week.

This is the last Temporary Barriers Project update for this year.  Aren’t you glad!  We’ll resume in the spring assuming the courts let us install the barriers.  Just kidding (I think).  See ya’ next year!

Late Breaking News:  I got engaged on Thanksgiving to a wonderful Blood Source nurse named Lisa (she took my blood and stole my heart).  She said “yes” after I impressed her by mentioning that I was in charge of the rock barriers.  :)

These weekly updates are also available for your information on our website:

If you know of anyone else that should be receiving this update, please let me know by email, and I'll add them to the mailing list.  Thanks!
