The following report on the Temporary Barriers Project is for your information and action, as appropriate.  This report will be transmitted whenever changes occur to the operation of the barriers, and as a result of modeling and/or field monitoring of water levels in the south Delta.

STATUS AS OF:  November 21, 2008

Head of Old River Barrier (HORB):

The fall Head of Old River barrier was breached on Monday, November 3, and has been completely removed from the channel.

Agricultural Barriers (Old River near Tracy [ORT], Middle River [MR], Grant Line Canal [GLC]):

The removal of the barriers continued this week with work expected to be fully completed before the Thanksgiving holiday.  At the Old River near Tracy barrier, in-water work was completed Sunday, 11/16/08.  Site cleanup will be completed by mid next week.  At the Grant Line Canal barrier, in-water work will be completed Friday, 11/21/08, and site cleanup completed early next week.  The rock weir at the Middle River barrier has already been removed, however, the catwalks on the barrier culverts were removed Wednesday, 11/19/08 and divers will be removing flap-gates Thursday, 11/20/08.  The catwalks and flap-gates are being salvaged for possible reuse on new culverts to be installed next spring.

Modeling:

Modeling was not done this week because the barriers are being removed and no actions can be taken at the barriers to respond to actual or projected water level or water quality conditions.
