The following report on the Temporary Barriers Project is for your information and action, as appropriate.  This report will be transmitted whenever changes occur to the operation of the barriers, and as a result of modeling and/or field monitoring of water levels in the south Delta.

STATUS AS OF:   October 14, 2011

Head of Old River (HOR) Barrier:

The fall Head of Old River barrier will not be installed this season per Department of Fish and Game instruction.  San Joaquin River flow conditions and dissolved oxygen concentration is acceptable, and the and the physical rock barrier is not needed.

Agricultural Barriers (Old River near Tracy [ORT], Middle River [MR], Grant Line Canal [GLC]):

The Old River near Tracy (ORT) barrier and the Middle River (MR) barrier were both breached on October 11, 2011.

The Grant Line Canal barrier construction removal will start next week and breaching is scheduled on October 17.  Due to the continuing high San Joaquin river flow, the re-installation of the flashboard structure at Grant Line Canal barrier is postponed until next spring.

Water Levels/Water Quality Problem Notifications:

No problems reported.

Modeling:

Water levels have remained high and quality continues to be good in the South Delta. Model runs have been suspended.  DWR will continue to monitor the water levels and modeling will resume if needed.
